It’s Our Annual Spring Bike Swap at Fremont Park!

The Sac Bike Kitchen together with The Friends of Fremont Park will once again be hosting a Bicycle Swap Meet in Midtown Sacramento.

This is our THIRD bike swap meet as last year we had another great turnout! Here’s your chance to get a great deal on used bikes, parts and clothing from other bike riders and enthusiasts. If you've been waiting to sell something -- old, new, vintage, or perhaps something that’s been sitting in your garage, this is a great opportunity to finally get it done. Proceeds will go to benefit the non-profit organizations: The Sac Bike Kitchen and The Friends of Fremont Park.

There are only so many spots available and are reserved on a first-come, first serve basis.

WHEN: Sunday, June 3rd, 9-1PM (No Rain Date Planned)
WHERE: Fremont Park in Midtown Sacramento, 1 square block, between P&Q and 15th &16th Streets. It's the green space located in front of the the restaurant Hot Italian.

We've had a number of people contact us about doing our Spring Bike Swap in the Park. We'll likely be doing it in June this year. We're in the process of finalizing a date and will post information here as soon as we have things in order.

The Friends of Fremont Park is excited to have a family movie night in the park again this year. We anticipate fantastic weather and an enjoyable evening. There will be food trucks in the park, face painting, and children's activities. You can also order a take out pizza from Hot Italian to enjoy during the movie. SACRAMENTO’S FAVORITE FAMILY FESTIVAL – LABOR DAY WEEKEND

The 21st Annual Chalk It Up to Sacramento will be held over Labor Day Weekend - September 3-5, 2011- at Fremont Park in downtown Sacramento. Celebrate the talents of hundreds of local artists and musicians at Sacramento’s favorite family festival.

The three-day event raises money for grants to fund youth arts education programs in all disciplines in local schools and in the community. Chalk It Up! features more than 200 volunteer artists, sponsored by local businesses, creating chalk art masterpieces on the sidewalks surrounding the park.

Live music is featured all day long throughout the festival. This year’s acts will include Walking Spanish, exquisite Corps, Dog Party with special guest Kepi, and over two dozen top-notch local acts.

Hands-on art activities for children, led by professional artists and groups like the Sacramento Public Library, will be featured each day. There is truly something for everyone of any age to enjoy with a broad variety of community groups, craft booths, gourmet food trucks, and a wine and beer garden. Access to the park and the event is always FREE to the public.

Chalk It Up! to Sacramento is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) charitable organization engaging over 400 volunteers each year in support of the festival. Mark your calendar and bring your friends and family to enjoy a memorable weekend at Fremont Park in downtown Sacramento – all for FREE.

Sacramento Cyclefest Bicycle Show 2011

Following up on last years successful first event held at Fremont Park, the Chopaderos Bicycle Club is once again hosting another big Cylcefest event in the park. They'll be a bicycle contest, food from various vendors and a raffle -- not to mention some very cool custom bikes from all over the state.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, July 17th, from 10AM-3PM. Click on the picture for more detailed information including event contacts, Ted Florez and Mike S.

The event is open to the public and since the event is on a Sunday, most of the parking around the park is free.

GeTty Crafty Event

A fundraiser to raise money for Getty Owl will be held Saturday, June 11th in Fremont Park. The Getty Owl Foundation is dedicated to help raise awareness for SMA1 (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).

There are nearly 70 vendors signed up and the event will have massages, swag bags to the first 100 people, face painting and more. You can visit the group's site for more information.

Bicycle Film Festival (BFF) 2011

The International Bicycle Film Festival will once again have shows in Fremont Park! Because of some generous sponsors, the shows at the park will be FREE! You can check out the program at the BFF Site.

The Bicycle Film Festival has been a major catalyst for the urban bike movement, one of the most powerful and culturally relevant forces of the last decade. The BFF is sure to carry this momentum into the next decade.

The BFF travels all around the world and Sacramento is one of only 24 cities to host this film event. We tip our helmets to Sacramento for once again making this possible.

Fremont Park has a wonderful new addition to it. Local artist Stephanie Taylor was commissioned to create these colorful sculptures.

Made with various elements found in the area as well as symbolizing the diversity of the Sacramento region, Fremont Park was chosen as the permanent home for these pieces.

SactoMoFo - Sacramento Mobile Food Festival - April 30th

Get ready to take your taste buds into sixth gear at the Sacramento Mobile Food Festival (SactoMofo) - no seat belts required! Over two dozen vendors - some carts, some trucks and mobile grills - from the Sacramento region and Bay Area will be on hand to serve you, your family and friends a tasty and hopefully mellifluous afternoon of food and music. Bring small bills and a huge appetite!

Ride your bike or take light rail if possible - Fremont Park is just across from the 16th Street station - out of respect for the park's residential and business neighbors. Parking will be available, but limited. We'll have over two dozen vendors - some carts, some trucks and mobile grills - from the Sacramento region and Bay Area on hand to serve you, your family and friends a tasty and hopefully mellifluous afternoon of food and music.

CADA (the Capitol Area Development Authority) along with the City of Sacramento and Friends of Fremont Park will launch their third annual Movie in Fremont Park on Friday, August 20, 2010. This annual viewing of outdoor movies is free to the public and includes festivities for children. CADA hosts this family-friendly summer event in celebration of the Capitol Park Neighborhood.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with the Disney/Pixar movie “Up” beginning at dusk (anticipated to be at 7:45 p.m.). Come out early to enjoy pre-movie activities such as Mimo the Clown’s balloon art, face painting, and hot dogs for the first few hundred people. There will be plenty of photo opportunities so don’t forget your camera! Kick back under the stars and smell the popcorn, summer is still here! Those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult

XOSO Capture the Flag is back! Bring your friends and share the love. This will be Saturday morning at 11:00am at Fremont Park.

Wear your XOSO shirts if you've got one.

We'll be at Fremont Park (between 15th and 16th Streets and between Q and P Streets) and we'll play till noon or 1pm or somewhere in between. Meet us at the fountain in the middle wearing your XOSO shirt if you have one!

You remember the game: two teams, each with a flag and a jail. You have to sneak across the field, past the neutral zone to capture their flag, all while evading the other team. If they tag you on their side of the field, you go to their jail where you will be guarded vigilantly. Never fear, your team can spring you from the slammer by tagging you before they themselves are captured.

This is a free XOSO Sports event. Tell your friends! If you have a Xoso t-shirt please wear it to this event. We'll head over to Hot Italian or R15 for a little drinking and socializing after the game. Please let us know if you plan to attend...

Bicycle Film Festival coming to Fremont Park - May 14 and 15!

Come out to Fremont Park the evenings of May 14 and 15 to enjoy the FREE Bicycle Film Festival in the park. Films will be shown on a large outdoor screen. A bicycle valet will be available on both nights. Saturday will also feature Hot Italian food available for picnic, and a beer garden. This event is in keeping with the mission of The Friends of Fremont Park: The Friends of Fremont Park (FFP) will gather and work together for the improvement of Fremont Park. The primary objectives of FFP are to ensure that Fremont Park is a safe and pleasant place for neighborhood residents and visitors and to establish the park as a vital focal point of a thriving community. Activities of the FFP will include the continued pursuit of improvements and enhancements to the park and the promotion of the park as a location for neighborhood gatherings and planned community events.

Friends of Fremont Park is holding its 1st Annual Fremont Park Community Yard Sale on Saturday, September 26th from 9am to 1pm.

You can buy a 10 foot by 10 foot sales area in the park for $10 to sell your household goods, antiques, jewelry, tools, clothing, and other items. No drugs, weapons, or sexually related items will be allowed to be sold.

Check-in and set-up between 7:45 am and 8:45 am. First come first choice of plot! Check-in table at the corner of 16th and P.

Don't have anything to sell? Make sure you come out to check out the deals!
